We will be showcasing new paintings by some of the finest painters of the region, all of who are at the peak of their respective careers.

Andrea Patrisi and Vincenzo Aprile have created works depicting the timeless beauty of the Amalfi coast including vistas of Sorrento, Capri and Ravello. The older painter, Fortuno Fortunao’s fishing scenes of the same geographical area could not be more different to the vibrant and energetic scenes of his younger peers. Fortunato concentrates on the stillness and quiet of the local workers, leaving each morning to catch fish in the same way that their fathers and grandfathers have done for almost a century.

Giani Strino’s muse is not the magnificent scenery of the Campania region but the intense and striking beauty of the local women. Raven haired and often temperamental, Strino’s models ooze passion and allure, comparable to that of Neapolitan Sophia Loren. Like Loren their beauty is both wild and passionate, they are real women with strong ties to the land and their heritage.

There were 3,100 individual artists, each submitting one work only and from those, 200 have been shortlisted for the next stage. The shortlisted works will go before a jury comprising; the BBC’s Creative Director Alan Yentob, Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery Iwona Blazwick, Turner Prize Nominee George Shaw, Artists Fiona Banner and Angela de la Cruz.

Mo’s painting, ‘Isobel’ is one of a series of six recent paintings exploring notions of childhood memories and emotions.

Location and childhood memories feature strongly as a point of reference for my work. I endeavour to recapture on canvas my emotional response to a particular place or experience, not necessarily creating a topographical likeness but exploring the inspiring reality of the situation. The fusing of past to present brings fear and excitement in an ever changing environment. Elements of humour masking inner torment and fear as in this painting entitled ‘Isobel’ – An introvert with the longings and aspirations of an extrovert.

On arrival I was very excited to open my crates with all of the fantastic new art work commissioned specifically for the fair!

Visitor numbers have been high with a lot of interest in all of my gallery artists. Sales have been strong with works going into private collections both within New York and further afield.

AAD is a forum for anyone with an interest in the arts and has proven to be a vibrant area for discussion and debate between dealers, collectors, and art market professionals.

AAD is the brainchild of Elliot Lee and is intended to promote unity and collaboration between various sectors in the arts markets. It was set up in June 2011 whilst Elliot and many of his colleagues were exhibiting at the Summer Olympia Fine Art and Antiques Fair in London. Elliot has been a dealer in rare and unusual objects from a very young age and has established himself as one of the most respected and energetic antique dealers working in London.

In less than 12 months Elliot has been able to engage viewers from around the world through hard work and imagination, he is a credit to the antiques trade and should be congratulated for all of his success.

In the late autumn of 2011 Elliot and I joined in a partnership on the AAD Blog and we have worked together to bring a wider audience and are now delighted to have regular contributions not just from our esteemed colleagues in the UK but also Europe, America, Africa and Australia.

Robert McPartland is a painter whose ability to render everyday objects in acute detail and clarity transforms the mundane and pedestrian into the slightly surreal and uncanny.

Robert is interested in our relationship to the things that surround us. Our every action has an impact on our physical environment; Roberts’s paintings capture this in the positioning and manipulation of objects. He ‘creates’ a still life scene and then photographs it from all angles and in varying light conditions. Robert will then return to the photographs, sometimes years later, and paint one view of his posed objects.

“I am interested in our relationship to the forms we share our world with, to which we attach ever changing meanings, values and functions. Through observation, thought, use of context, relationship, and scale, I try to say something of significance with small things, whilst being true to their nature. Even a simple, single form can have many manifestations and existences; faced with complexity, I work as simply as possible.”
