7th – 29th February 2012

A Taste of Things to Come is an exhibition introducing eight new contemporary artists represented by Fiumano Fine Art. Each artist has their own unique style and working method but the thread that brings them together is the adherence to the ethos of the gallery – beautiful works of art that have been skilfully and meticulously created.

Enzo Barraco

Untitled | Limited Edition Photograph

Enzo is an Italian professional photographer who lives and works in London. His research is based on the desire to establish a dialogue with nature, his first inspirational muse. His work investigates and shows nature in all its majesty and fragility

Enzo has also worked extensively in corporate photography, collaborating with companies including Phaidon Press, Barclays Bank, Estee Lauder Group, Park Hyatt, and Vivienne Westwood.

Enzo’s work was first exhibited at Fiumano Fine Art in 2011 as part of the ‘Across the Bridge’ exhibition and we look forward to working with him on future projects including a forthcoming trip to Antarctica.

Anna Paola Cibin

Coccodrillo | Unique Murano Glass Sculpture

Anna Paola works with Murano glass to create delicate yet humours animal sculptures. Originally from Venice Paola spent several years working within the famous glass foundries of Murano. One of her most recent areas of exploration is painting on velvet, emulating the traditions of the Venetian tapestries of the past. Her velvet works often include glass, gold and sliver leaf embellishments.

Anna Paola has exhibited throughout Italy and Europe and has a planned exhibition in Singapore later on in 2012. This will be the first time we work together and Fiumano Fine Art are planning to take her work to the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, New York and Singapore and will be staging a two person exhibition of Paola’s glass and velvet paintings here at the gallery in the Autumn.

Amelia Ciriello

Princess Toyotama | oil on canvas

Amelia Ciriello is a painter whose fascination with women goes far beyond external beauty. In her elegant portraits Amelia captures the essence of femininity and grace. Geisha’s are an area of particular interest; the mysterious and esoteric women she paints are full of secrets. We the viewer are invited to gaze on their timeless beauty and elegance whist at the same time being given a glimpse of their often hidden individuality.

Amelia’s work was first exhibited at Fiumano Fine Art at the end of 2011 with great success. We will be showing Amelia’s paintings at the Spring Affordable Art Fair in Battersea and also taking her work to New York and Singapore later on in 2012

Christophe de Contenson

The Young Toreador | Unique Bronze

Christophe de Contenson is a French artist who was introduced to Fiumano Fine Art by one of our collectors. His work is inspired by his own personal deep-rooted belief in helping others. Christophe has worked on many humanitarian projects including in areas such as Cambodia, Cameroon and Burkina Faso. His sculptures often place the victim or person of disadvantage in a position of power, such as a bull dressed as a Toreador. Christophe uses the lost wax process, a technique that is quite rare in contemporary sculpture. Each of his enigmatic bronze sculptures is unique.

We first exhibited Christophe’s work at the Affordable Art fair in Hampstead in November 2011. We are intending to take a selection of his sculptures to New York and Singapore.

Richard Farrant

The Race | Charcoal on paper

Richard Farrant is a British artist whose charcoal paintings are full of immediacy and energy. His subject matter can vary from an everyday scene of commuters walking home in the rain to the excitement of the climax of a horse race. His ability to capture the essence of his subject is the key to the success of his works.

I have known Richard for many years but only recently became aware of his art works. I was immediately taken by his technical skill and flair. His work was first exhibited with Fiumano Fine art at the Affordable Art Fair in Hampstead in 2011. We also took a body of his equestrian art to Singapore in November 2011 selling to collectors from Singapore, Malaysia, China and Australia. In 2012 we will be showing Richards work in New York and Singapore.

Robert McPartland

Match | Oil on linen

Robert McPartland is a painter who is fascinated with the rendering of still life arrangements in a unique and often quite surreal way. He is interested in our relationship to the things around us, things that have different and shifting meanings from person to person.

Through observation and the use of different contexts and relationships Robert attempts to attempt to open a meaningful dialogue with seemingly simple and every day items.

This is the first time I have worked with Robert and I am very much looking forward to introducing this talented painter’s work to my friends and clients. I will be showing Robert’s work throughout the year at the gallery and at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea.

Beth Nicholas

Blustery Day by the Sea II | ink on paper

Beth Nicholas is a young artist who’s delicate and intimate abstract paintings attracted me immediately. She uses blown ink on paper to create mysterious and otherworldly images. In some of her paintings she includes free flowing text, words running into one another with no obvious meaning other than their visual harmony.

I was introduced to Beth in the autumn of 2011 and was taken by her work from our very first meeting. We first exhibited her work at the Affordable Art Fair in Hampstead last autumn where sales were well into double figures, a great achievement for an emerging artist. Her work was also exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair Singapore in November 2011. Beth’s work will be shown throughout the year with Fiumano Fine Art including at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, New York and Singapore.

Ian Treherne

The Magical Silver Bullet Cafe | Limited edition photograph

In December of last year I visited an exhibition on Ian’s work in Soho, London. I was immediately struck by the honesty and beauty of his photographs. Though photography Ian captures images of his experiences in the world, together with thought provoking scenes and emotions which have transfixed him.

This will be the first time that we work with Ian and are looking forward to showing his work at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea and in a mixed London themed exhibition at the gallery in the Summer of 2012.

Robert McPartland is a painter whose ability to render everyday objects in acute detail and clarity transforms the mundane and pedestrian into the slightly surreal and uncanny.

Robert is interested in our relationship to the things that surround us. Our every action has an impact on our physical environment; Roberts’s paintings capture this in the positioning and manipulation of objects. He ‘creates’ a still life scene and then photographs it from all angles and in varying light conditions. Robert will then return to the photographs, sometimes years later, and paint one view of his posed objects.

“I am interested in our relationship to the forms we share our world with, to which we attach ever changing meanings, values and functions. Through observation, thought, use of context, relationship, and scale, I try to say something of significance with small things, whilst being true to their nature. Even a simple, single form can have many manifestations and existences; faced with complexity, I work as simply as possible.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                           Robert McPartland

Roberts’s work has been exhibited throughout the UK and can be found in several private and corporate collections including the Earl of Gowrie pc, Unilever plc, Coopers & Lybrand, Walt Disney Productions, Scrolapoint and Deryck Healey (patron of new art at the Tate Gallery)

Ian Treherne was born in Essex and it was not until after his school life, that his two greatest passions photography and travel began to sculpt his future.

Experiencing different cultures and meeting people from other communities broadened Ian’s view of the world and opened his eyes to the beauty and ugliness of the space around us. Through photography he captures the images of his experiences, together with thought provoking scenes and emotions which have transfixed his eyes, to share with others.

Although originally a painter Ian has been interested in photography since his late teens and was inspired to pick up the camera again after being regularly photographed, singing in bars and at music festivals. Over the past two years Ian’s photography has continued to develop, becoming increasingly diverse, yet remaining sensitive.

Ian’s large mixed media abstract paintings also manage to capture something of the society in which we live. Through vivid colour and gestural application of paint Ian ‘depicts’ light and colour in an intuitive and emotive way.

Anna Paola Cibin was born in San Donà di Piave, Venice.

After studying Fine art with a specialisation in weaving she moved to London where she continued her studies in fabric design. Some of her textile designs have been assumed by Lorenzo Rubelli and she has work in the permanent collection of the Palazzo Mocenigo Textile Museum in Venice.

Once she had completed her studies Anna Paola returned to Venice where she worked with the master galas blowers from Murano. Through this partnership Anna Paola learned the ancient technique of glass production and soon realised the versatility of the medium.

In 1997 Anna Paola began to explore the practice of painting on velvet, a technique that is now her unique signature style. She is both honouring reinterpreting the classical painting technique used in Venetian tapestries, embellishing them with gold and silver leaf and the application of Murano glass detailing.

Anna Paola has exhibited widely with shows in Venice, Milan, Verona, Eindhoven, Paris and New York.

In 2012 Anna Paola will be exhibiting in both the UK with Fiumano Fine Art and further afield in Singapore.

Christophe de Contenson is a French sculptor specializing in the ‘lost wax technique’. His figures, often inspired by folk law and legend as well as history and literature are both engaging and inspiring.

Christophe is a self-taught sculptor who was moved to begin his artistic career whilst in Burkina Faso where he was working on humanitarian projects. Christophe was played a founding role in the creation of a non-profit project with the intention of teaching and encouraging young people in art and design enabling them to set up independent businesses. Initially there were 5 young people that number has now grown to over 60 with galleries from all around the world exhibiting their work.

Whilst working with the young artists Christophe decided to try working in bronze with the lost wax technique:

“Burkina Faso is a known place for its famous bronze .A French artist whom we welcomed in residence showed me the basics! After a few tries some people passing purchased my sculptures, so with the support of my sister I had several shows in France. That’s how it started and how it keeps going working well, with luck! My inspiration comes from all my cultural background from opera, children stories, novels, and history. Its a world full of flowers, insects, animals…Always a touch of humor, sensitivity and emotion, I also like to put the small ones in the outfit of the strong ones, the victims in the outfit of the killer: A bull in the outfit of the toreador, a deer in the one of a hunter! The last one can be the first ones!! After thirteen years spend in Africa I moved back to France where I have my workshop and were I welcome some African artists, I have trained.

I do everything myself in my work, from the shape to the cleaning and the patina”

Dario Ballantini was born in the Tuscan seaside town of Livorno in 1964. From an early age he was surrounded by creativity, both his father and uncle were well established artists and his grandfather an active amateur actor.

It is for his television appearances that Dario has become a household name in Italy. His unique style of satire and caricature have seen him appear in several widely watched programs, most recently the internationally famous ‘Striscia la notizia’ a satirical look at contemporary Italian politics and culture aired on Canale 5 in which Dario impersonates and challenges many figures prominent in Italian public life. Throughout his successful media career he has continued to paint, indeed in many respects his persona as actor and that as artist are one and the same.

Dario’s increasing status as an important contemporary artist underlines his true and honest passion for paint. His fascination with the human form, most specifically faces and identities runs smoothly from his television work through to his paintings.

Dario has exhibited widely across Italy including exhibitions in Milan, Genoa, Naples, Florence, Bologna and Padua. He has also shown his work in Paris, at the European Parliament in Brussels, Prague and in a mixed exhibition ‘Italians do it Better’ in Basel. In 2010 Dario’s work was exhibited at Art Basel Miami and in 2011 his work was part of the EuArt2011, USA.

Exhibition dates:

31st January – 5th February 2012

Fiumano Fine art are delighted to be hosting ‘Fake Identities’, the first UK exhibition of Dario’s work. For the exhibition we have selected a body of work that reflects Dario’s outstanding painterly ability and comprehensive understanding of the masters who came before him.

Non voglio Vedere | acrylic on panel | 50 x 150 cm

Dario is unafraid to experiment with his medium of choice, thickly impasto acrylic paint on canvas or board. The majority of his works are on a large scale, allowing him complete freedom to manipulate and control the paint with mastery and bravado.

Alla Deriva | acrylic on board | 100 x 63 cm

Dario Ballantini is one of the most exciting contemporary artists working in Italy today. His natural flair combines with a deep academic understanding of his place within western art history and contemporary society. In his canvases he may be blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy but his identity as a serious and highly collectable contemporary artist is unwavering.

Amelia uses washes of think oil paint to create canvases that seem to glow from within. The predominance of gold and black add a sense of reverence and idolatry to her subjects. The women she paints are to be admired from afar, we are given only what they want us to have.

I am fascinated by faces, always have been, especially women’s. I’m drawn, at the moment to Japanese faces which has led to the Geisha paintings. What hides beneath all the silk, wraps and make up.

I am a self-taught artist and have spent many frustrating hours trying to come up with a way of working that is right for me. It has taken me several years of dedicated painting to achieve the delicate and almost fragile finish of my painting.

I love playing with oils, applying thick layers and extracting some of the paint, in a way trying to find a being in the layers, sometimes they pop out, many times they don’t and can take many months of experimentation with the paint until I find someone in there that I am happy with. With so many interesting myths and legends in the world it’s easy to take inspiration from them, my women are often named after a specific character from the history of culture.
