Vincenzo Aprile began his artistic career over thirty years ago. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Naples with the highest honours and had immediate success as a professional artist. From a young age his work was in constant demand, his passion for painting and exceptional natural ability as an artist made his work immediately collectable.

Naples and the surrounding coastline has been Aprile’s constant source of inspiration. In common with other artists from the school of ‘Realismo Magico’ Aprile depicts scenes of beauty and honesty. Sweeping views of the working marinas of Naples, Capri and Sorrento capture the majesty of the natural landscape alongside the fishermen and their working boats.
Palazzos that were once the sumptuous summer residences of Italy’s nobility now gently crumble, their faded gentility having a beauty all of their own.

Aprile paints with the confidence and gusto of a true Maestro, his ability to combine subtle tonal harmonies with sharp contrasts between light and dark give his paintings a complexity and raise him above many of his contemporaries. With a broad sweeping brush Aprile captures the very essence of the Costiera Amalfitana. His paintings are not romantic reminiscences of time past but contemporary celebrations of an evolving landscape.

Despite the geographical limitation of Aprile’s subject matter his paintings are never repetitious. He may paint the same scene many times but each painting reveals something new. His keen eye for detail picks out the slightest change in a sea or landscape. Different times of day and seasons of the year bring about new challenges in terms of natural light and colour. With apparent ease Aprile can adapt to any task he sets himself, be it an ambitious nocturnal view of Positano or a more intimate ‘portrait’ of a specific beach and the fishermen working there.

Aprile art is a vocation to which he has dedicated his life, he lives to paint. We the viewer are lucky to be able to enjoy the fruits of his conviction and talent.
