Franco Brescianini

A passion for beauty and modernity is the foundation of Franco Brescanini’s work. His desire to constantly seek out innovative forms of painterly language has led to a highly successful career spanning over three decades. Now in his sixties Brescanini is at the height of his powers, he has the confidence and ability to push boundaries ever further.

One cannot view his work without thinking of the Futurists working in Italy in the early 20th Century. The quest to capture movement and speed, technological and engineering advancements and the excitement of modern day life championed by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1909 with the manifesto Le Futurisme is bought to fruition in the work of Brescanini a century later.

There is certainly a certain sense of nostalgia when looking at Brescanini’s most recent paintings. His beautiful women seem to be wearing ‘period’ dress but which period is not entirely clear. Are they stylish fashionistas walking around the elegant shopping district of modern day Milan or are they Flappers from the 1920’s who shed corsets, girdles and long hair replacing them with short skirts, makeup and sex appeal, marking a milestone in women's long march to equality.

Although there is clear reference to the past in his painting style, with a masterful hand Brescanini has added refinement and polish. His handling of line and understanding of complex colour arrangement gives his paintings a strong identity. He mixes his own pigments to create vivacious pinks, greens and blues, combining them with soft skin tones and gentle curves to create objects of beauty and desire.

Brescanini has exhibited widely, both in his native Italy and abroad. His work can be seen in public collections including the Strasbourg Museum and Fiat’s corporate offices in Italy.
